EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My best friend eel. That's the first time I've ever seen its face but NOT the closest I've ever been! I was hanging way over the edge of the bridge trying to get closer!

Bestie, get up north before all that wildlife eats you!! :hide
it was 20 this morning and I made him go back in and get his hunting boots and a winter jacket on, he came out in rubber boots and a sweatshirt :he   once the sun was up it was nice to feel it! and started to make the snow that stuck start dropping out of the trees and stuff.

Jace just said we're heading to your place NOW even if she has to drag me.

GASP...the blue eyed goat is soooooo adorable.

As for bandaging for bumblefoot, I had two hens and a cockerel with it last year. I finally decided they were picking up thorns from digging around in orchard grass. I tried using the single vet rap strip cut into three 'fingers' and gave up after trying to hold a rooster who didn't want to be held. You can only throw so many wads of vet wrap in the trash before you star to mentally say "Ka CHING" and see dollar signs flash before your eyes.

I did a stint as a wound nurse once upon a time and drew on that experience. First, get everything ready before you start. I take a one foot length of vetwrap and split it into two 1.5 inch strips and hang it up by one end somewhere where it would be close at hand.

Next I dress the wound with a gauze pad and antibiotic ointment. I have the chicken laying on my lap on his or her back. If necessary, I cocoon them in a towel to get them to hold still. Taking one of the strips, anchor it around the leg at the ankel. It usually takes two times around the leg to secure the strip. Then while holding the dressing in place, take the strip and figure 8 it between the toes and ankle, looping it around the toes and back around the ankle. One figure 8 will secure the dressing giving you two hands to work with. The rest is easy peasy. Just keep figure 8 ing the strip around the toes, back around the ankle until you use it up. If you need the second strip, you just repeat the procedure.

If you don't use the second strip it's left over for the next dressing change.

It's a great big eel!
really? we catch black eels not silver!!! did you catch it? they are awesome smoked!!
How do you catch it?
red worms at night in fresh water creeks on a 6 or 7 hook

In the salt water at the intlet in DE I caught an eel on squid, this thing was about three food long and about as round as my upper leg, it freaked the heck out of me!!! I threw it back I could hardly lift it and all the old timers fishing had a fit when I chucked it back in. I love doing that, I do it most often because I dont eat fish

@microchick - I'm going to try the video method tomorrow, will try an alternative if that doesn't work. But I definitely agree with the whole "lay everything out first" thing - I always do that. I had five strips precut and separately hanging from a drawer - but I never could get the wrapping right...

Quote: The majority of my chicks are heading to phila area on a chicken train in the morning, so I can clean the brooders and get them at least ready to add food and water for hatching when I am down, I give instructions well ha!! then I need to catch all the male bcm cockerels and send them on their way and clean coop three out. At least as best as I can right now.

I didnt check weather but I had dont plenty this day, Take it easy cleaning them out. Are you breathing ok now? no more illness?
