Never had one bite me but the closet I got was 10 feet when I was a kid. I did try to guide one across the street once so it wouldn't get ran over. He didn't think too much of me trying to help.
You didn't kill it???

That's nothing compared to the giant spider I saw on one of my upper living room windows one day - STARING down at me. I thought it was inside for a minute, and while I like spiders, I still sorta freaked out. Someone told me it was a banana spider (or something like that) - I had a small grove of banana trees at the time.
Um, they're kinda like tarantulas... um... except they're sort kinda bigger... (At least this one was.) Like, the size of my face.![]()

I'd sooner be bit by a dozen horseflies than allow a spider that size to live in my house.
Benadryl is my best friend all through summer...
Imagine the sheer joy of seeing a spider eat one of the horseflies you fed it. Amazing.

Quote: Spiders are a good sign that you have a healthy ecosystem. And they eat bad bugs. They are fantastic to have in your garden.

No, Actually, I'm not. I was just looking for the photo I took, but I can't find it at the moment...
