It is not for me. I think they just decided due to her health that it is easier to feed them and have them in cribs for the first few days when you have to feed them so many times a day. Her kids are born in January and February, and are pulled immediately. A lot of them are pre-sold, and leave within days of birth.
Ours sleeps in a dog crate at night once they are about a week old, so we can milk in the morning with out fighting for milk. LOL

Hers never nurse or are with their dams. I do the split like you after the first two weeks so I can share the milk, and milk just once a day. Chaos is without her doeling that was retained though so she is milking twice a day.

I have been giving it all to the boys, because at $5.00 a gallon the raw cows milk I was giving them was breaking me. I stole some last night for this morning.
