EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Interesting how what used to be the norm is now weird.

I get it and understand. We faced huge backlash when we decided to homeschool. It wasn't the norm for my family coming from a mother and 2 sisters who are public school teachers.

Interestingly enough one of those sisters decided to start homeschooling her children last year. And now she is encountering the same resistance we did.

I accepted the fact that I was the blacksheep of the family when I "ran away" and joined the service 16 years ago.

They don't get my lifestyle but that's choices we make and do what we feel is best for our family. I say they raised me and now it's my time to raise mine. I have been accused of being old fashioned but I have to ask myself if that's really a bad thing.

I have been accused of being "anti-feminist" because I try to meet my husband at the gate every day when he gets home from work to greet him so he knows i'm happy to see him.

I commend you for that. Unfortunately I think part of what drove the feminist movement was the fact that men weren't doing their part to make the women of their lives feel valued and appreciated. Just my opinion and everybody has one.

careful though, that's the "old fashioned" way of thinking also.

@mlm Mike I tried the peroxide twice yesterday. It is less stinky, but not right yet. I will try something else if it still smells tonight.

How close are the other two of yours that are due?

So if I set by sunday I can still make the hatch along right?
Which hatch a long?

Wife, daughter and son are all very sad today. A coworker and friend they've known for 7 years passed yesterday.
He was only 41. He either had a brain aneurism or heart attack. They won't know till the autopsy. He had a stroke a couple years ago and was hospitalized with high blood pressure this year. He had a poor diet.
I met him a couple times but didn't really know him.
Sorry to hear that. So young.

I just got knocked out by a baby goat.
Ouch, I hope you are ok.

Reaching out for help. Post office did not call me soon enough when chicks arrived. I think they may have overheated as the day was hot here in Florida. Oh well. I gave all of them electrolytes and grow gel period I really worked with the lethargic ones but I lost one already period I have one that walks aound crying even though the breeder is warm at 92 to 95 degrees. He won't eat. And I'm about to lose another one it's just beyond saving it will not respond period I've even tried wet Kickstarter with it and everything. I'm usually very good with chicks and I have no losses but these guys were Zapped when I got them. Any help with the one that's crying and crying even though he's warm period and won't eat. I think he's savable if he'll eat. I take him over to the water and dip his beak and he can stand up and swallow it so
Any updates?

During the week I see my hot bride of 16 1/2 years for about an hour a day. We conduct the family affairs by phone at lunch and emails from work. Let's say she has less than 0% interest in my birds. Couple weeks ago she gutted every bird I slaughtered and plucked. I just let her know to stop and get me cash for eggs. She was or acted super excited that I was getting eggs and I knew enough to not bore her with details. She moonlights as a professional photographer and I have been her back up at several weddings....me getting dressed up to watch a bunch of drunks is not my forte. A marriage is not give and take, it is not 50/50. If your not in it 100% giving 100/100 you are doomed.

I am a tester, If you claim to have tested your birds and do not you are committing a felony. Do you really think a person is going to not test their birds with the possibility of a fine and or prison?

We have tons of testers around here, 50 cents and mileage would be a good rate if they have the birds ready for you. Waiting for birds is a pain and can limit the birds you can test in an hour.

Also the test takes 2 minutes per bird to complete after the smear is made. You are not going to get rich at this. If the state requires an AI test then you have to do a saliva smear into a medium also. Turkeys, peacocks and other species require a larger blood sample they do not like to give up easily.

It is not the easy money you make it out to be. I test mainly for my own convenience and to help out some local 4H kids

I do a lot of things, that i'm sure people wouldn't agree with. My husband spoils me, and I make sure to always have his back, and that includes things like greeting him so he knows we missed him while he was gone and value his hard work. He also has a semi-dangerous job and there's always a risk he could die, whether it's from a bullet, or a snake bite, you know?

I always felt that being a feminist meant the right to CHOOSE how we, as women, wanted to live. What I normally here, is how "women who cater to their husbands" set back the movement...

But then again, my mother in law live through that era, and she routinely tells me in a semi-resentful tone, how her husband NEVER changed diapers, and that it wasn't expected. She was truly shocked, that my husband plays with the kids, changes diapers, helps with the housework and schoolwork, etc.

We don't have "male and female" chores here, everyone does a little bit of everything, you know?

People do what they are good at and everyone pitches in to help.
Did you get a kitty?
I did not - I went there, and they had no adoptable cats, I drove 2+ hours too. :(

All the rescue shelters that have animals in foster, I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone - and the one rescue up by Fire ant eat, they stopped talking to me when they found out I had to travel 6 hours to pick up a kitten.

My main goal is to test my flock and my sister-in-law has a small flock. She helps me transfer birds and eggs so I owe her. My underlying reasons is corporating for eggs and to sell chicks for by ever going hatching addiction.
