Nice!
38 degrees here now Move to the banana belt Whites We would welcome you!
The experiment is over...
Leaving eggs at day 18 sit outside on top to of incubator, whether on purpose or because of Senioritis, will not affect the hatching ability of the eggs adversely.
Every egg that sat out for 20 hours hatched!!!
Awwwwww
I think Jazzy is finally laying!
Saw her in the box clucking away, and 30min later a found a green coloured egg in the box she was in.

Sweet cats. Sorry about the chicks. I'm glad some appear to be thriving.Just got home with the cats (finally) - it's been quite a day with cat proofing the house and cleaning two of the brooders and tending weak chicks from the latest group. And it's pouring, which I'm thankful for, but sorta sucked when picking up the cats. They actually wanted me to do that photo op today! I was like, "The cats are tired (they are shy and had to be caught), I'm tired and sweaty and rain-soaked, can I please just email you photos when they're calm and adjusted?") Brooke is shy but ok, and is enjoying looking out at the chickens. Opal is hiding. I hate to bother her, but I'll have to eventually, as I need to make sure she knows where the litter box is... (And she hasn't discovered the kitty towers yet.)
Best shot I can get of Opal so far...
I lost 2 chicks this morning, and one more looks like it won't make it, with another two that are iffy. I keep checking on them about every hour when I can, and making sure they drink, but there's only so much I can do if they are that weak. The rest are running around like champs though. I need to brace myself and head over there and see if there are any more tiny bodies. It's always so sad...
(I'll have to read back later - gotta do weights on one group of chicks and make sure the brooders' water is changed. Big chicken chores will have to wait until tomorrow morning, it's pouring out.)

My dear friends…
I am in shock, and also know that I am a big baby and crying. I dont really know what to say, besides holy cow, thank you so very much, and OMG yer all nuts, that much $ at a chicken store!
Today I was talking to a BYC friend that lives local and we realized we have been yapping etc for over six years now about chickens and life, We were discussing when I cant babysit anymore what I can try to do next to help support my kids, I tried to explain to her when she asked if I get paid for anything I have done on BYC that I dont, but its been a major source for support through the most horrible times in my life. When I realized the cancer support groups only brought me down more with the disappointments, discussion and even the deaths, I swore I needed to find something to occupy my time that keeps me uplifted and looking forward.
BYC and the associated hobbies/addictions sure took hold and helped me be more positive and realize I could still live my life even if I dont know the ending. I wont go on, but I think you should all realize how much you mean to me.Believe it or not, this has been minor compared to what I have been through, but to know that your cared ab and appreciated its absolutely amazing and I truly enjoy helping others with the incubation, not to mention trying to save some babies and stress from hatchers.![]()
I have a lifelong list of mentors, everyone is wise in some way and has taught me something, its a gift to give back in any way.
Thanks for walking with me when I needed support, thanks for walking ahead me when I needed guidance and thanks for walking behind me when I needed someone to watch my back. thanks for tolerating my idiosyncrasies and crazy cattywampus habits.
You might not know this, but you helped me find happiness in being the person that I really am, thank you everyone![]()
I need that shirt!

I've actually gotten brand new t-shirts for .75¢. Hurrah for closeouts, eh?
How do you get their milk supply up, when they only have one baby. All my nannies have only had 1 and I find their milk supply really low when I try to milk. Granted, they were pygmies and don't make as much as a dairy goat to begin with, but I found as soon as her baby weaned, she dried up, even with milking 2x a day. When I sold two back legs and a Dowling yesterday as bottle babies for $600 that's not bad. It will help me finish fencing. Unfortunately, it means lots more milking since each of my Dairy days now I only have one kid which is not enough.
Good morning to all of you
