Brooke is the one that free ranged right. Used to freedom maybe

Both of them have been in the shelter a long time - Brooke for a year, Opal for about 8 months. They've been living in the same little unit for a couple weeks now. I was told that Opal is a little antisocial with other cats, But they've been fine in that little room, they just sort of ignore each other. I'm thinking it will be ok and that they will just not be buddies. If they fight, I'll need to figure something out - I don't have a lot of ability to lock up one apart from the other. I'm going with giving them each a lot of places to be - litter boxes at both sides of the house, windows for bird viewing at both sides of the house, food is in kitchen (2 bowls), but I'm considering putting an additional bowl of food and water elsewhere as well. That'll likely be my next step.

Mike, I was looking seriously into trying that method of using a shovel/broomstick, but a friend said it didn't work well at all... So I've crossed that out again. Just dunno.... At this point, I'm thinking loppers looks the best for me and the bird, coz I can't stomach looking the bird in the eye before picking its head up and slitting its throat. I'm still too much of a chicken hugger to do that much just yet, on my own birds anyway.

But then I have to buy loppers special due to my pair being about as good as a butter knife set.

Yeah, I'm great at coming up with excuses as to why I can't kill a chicken. :lau

Some folks swear by PVC cutters if you have access to one. I've actually considered it myself, I may try it when I start the processing with all the extra boys this year.

Ignoring each other is fine. Sounds like you gave them an environment where they can coexist.

Yeah.... I'll let you try it first.

The more I look into it, the more the five bucks to get the neighbour kid to do it seems worth it.

Yep - and there's lots of places to hide as well. I think it'll be fine. I hope. I think I'm going to cancel the vet appt on Tuesday, though. Pretty sure I won't be at the point to be able to find and catch them by then...
