EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I am VERY upset. I have a very nice, 200 dollar mini fridge, that I use in my closet to keep the kids from over-eating things like string cheese, chocolate chips, etc.

Well, now I know why my daughters cat was basically LIVING in my closet.

Apparently, rats moved into the house after the big rain storm we had and all the flooding. The little buggers ATE MY MINI FRIDGE. RUINED THE ENTIRE THING. Ate through metal, plastic, a drawer, and the back elements.

So sorry!

Picked 23 eggs from the hona pens that I'll try to set today. Broody is day 7-9? on her 4. Farm is a mess; five scovies decided they prefer the farm to the pond and have moved back. I guess that's fine. Goats haven't had hay in a week. :rant There's no forage left in the pen and I very specially said to make sure the manger was always filled.

Everyone seems to be alive, but I -feel- like there are way fewer chickens than when I left. Maybe because I've moved several into breed pens. I'll do a headcount tonight.

I hope they're all there and accounted for. I'm sorry your sitter didn't do great :( I had my mom sit for us the last time we went away for a weekend and she did great but this year, we have to leave for a week and mom will be with us the whole time. It's up to my BIL :/ I'm terrified.

She didn't collect eggs from two of the breed pens, either. There were 8 with the honas and I absolutely cannot believe that Lagertha didn't go broody on them. BUT everyone seemed ok. My helper is a bit scatterbrained, so pellets and water in 7 places was about as much as she could handle! :lau She did manage to collect 13 hona eggs and braved the broody, so I can't be too hard on her.

Leave detailed checklists, and you should be fine! :hugs

That top bird is so pretty. One of the chicken types I would love to own.. unfortunately, I don't have room right now.

The top bird is a Silver laced Barenvelder the most beautiful chickens breed in the world in my opinion!
