Like no calories in a broken cookie.

Chicks don't count because you don't know if they're boys or girls, and a few are likely to die.
Layers don't count because they are providing food.
Broodies don't count because they are incubators.
Roosters don't count because they are security.
Meaties don't count because they are food.
Named birds don't count because they are pets.
I don't have any birds. I better get some!

What about the few unnamed non-laying hens that just stick around coz you never bothered to sell them? Are they chickens?

Nope so now I'm in the negatives on whatever they are that runs around out there.

And obviously eggs in the incubator don't count, since we arent sure which came first!

 , and others having rat issues - here is what I have used. I was resistant about using it for a LONG time, and finally capitulated. It works well, I just haven't been very diligent about re-baiting the traps. Lots of info on the website on the pros and cons of each one. And I actually called them with a question and they were really great on the phone and talked me through questions about which was best for my situation. Highly recommend these folks from my experience.
