Present yourself has a backup for her stock, I think that it doesn't make sense to leave all the birds of a special genetic line in one spot. PM her, you already have the negative answer, so you don't have nothing to loose!
Great idea.

Exactly! I think in my dream it was like, well, living in California won't be so bad, I know some nice people there...![]()
How you doing? Thanks, MC! I'm sure I have a bath mitt around here somewhere...
I LOVE this photo - you seriously need to enter it in a contest or photo of the day or something... "What to do when your turkey is a photobomber..."
They are NOT. They are little evil things that make my life miserable. They like to sleep in trees, and have been known to seduce poor Monkey, their rooster, by squatting and lingering around him, and then scare that bejeezus out of him and the marans so they won't roost at night.
This is an updated photo I have of them:
Great, thanks, now another breed I'm going to want.![]()
Banty, I hear REALLY great things about Buckeyes for your climate. And Chantaclers (sp?).
I can vouch for the three youngest - you have awesome children.![]()
Well, I am taking the day off - to do more catching up on all the chicken and garden chores. But I JUST woke up (12:30pm) - I think my body was protesting that I was pushing a little too hard lately. And I think my brain was also in need of a refresh - when that's the case, I tend to have extremely vivid dreams that seem like they're still real when I wake up. @Phage - for some reason, I dreamed that our department was moving in its entirety to Stanford for some bizarre reason, and I kept sitting in a series of orientation meetings, meeting the new staff, being informed of the software and course management systems they use... None of us had a choice, but in the dream, it was no big deal. But IN THE DREAM I thought, "Hey, I know chicken people in California. Phage is there! Kev is there! It'll be neat to be in the same state." (Yes, I realize how big California is, Texas is big, too.) Then, as dreams tend to go, I was in a minibus and negotiating buying a freshly baked cherry pie and blueberry pie from a young baker in the seat behind me, but I didn't have enough cash, because it was $60 per pie. Then I woke up. WEIRD.![]()
I gotta get going - need to get some stuff down today. @Pensmaster - I may go buy those fire bricks today at the local building and fireplace supply.

I tried to find them and I'm convinced there are none in the US. I found a lady in Canada with them and she wasn't willing to do the vet paperwork so I could import them.i need to look these up

You're welcome. If I can get them imported, I'll let you know.Great, thanks, now another breed I'm going to want.![]()

@ChickenCanoe I ended up doing like you said and putting my swarm box up at around 15 feet. Fingers crossed this actually works and I didn't catch them at a time they aren't swarming.
both breeds look to have close relations with auracanas and the kiri Lori to the CCLI tried to find them and I'm convinced there are none in the US. I found a lady in Canada with them and she wasn't willing to do the vet paperwork so I could import them.
I'll have to go to Peru and set it up.
I think there would be a huge market for them here.
You're welcome. If I can get them imported, I'll let you know.
You'll want the Kiri Kiri. They'd do well in your climate. I'll let you know about them too. That will likely happen before the Quetros.
