EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I offer frozen water for the bird sto lay on in the afternoon, but with the fig tree, and dirt pit my dog digs, the birds manage to stay cool enough.
Birds who are bad for the heat will die off, and the ones who can handle it will survive and reproduce.

I'll bet all mine except Jace would die. Jace is a Texas birdie at heart.... It can be 87°F and muggy and she'll be running about, happy as a clam.

I know Emma would die.... She almost can't handle our summers...

Quote: Most I've ever done is put ice cubes in their water a couple times a day, & only then when it's really nasty. Of course, their run is covered by a heavy duty tarp that's silver on one side, & the whole affair is under a huge Maple tree. They still spread their wings & run around open-mouthed, but not that often. Next one I lose due to heat will be the 1st.

I don't even want to know what your definition of "really nasty" is...

hahah! Our bantam's do pretty good as long as they have shade. I have seen them sit in our water buckets though to cool off... they get inventive when it's hot.

Quote: We gave serious consideration to moving north, but I don't want to deal with 40+ years accumulation of "stuff" I may need some day, to say nothing of having to start all over at our ages. It may come to that (or part of it) eventually, but I'll stick here as long as I'm able; too much of my life gone into this place.

I have a pip! And lots of wittle willy coot peeping!
Oh and I seem to have two broodies.
