EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

@ChickenCanoe@Fire Ant Farm I will break this up a bit so it is not too long over post for people who don't want to read it.
After a week in the Tetons on the South Buffalo and Continental Divide ride I will head up from WY through the south entrance to Yellowstone in the afternoon.
Here is what I decided to try to do after the nearly impossible task of choosing what to do in Yellowstone. I was very limited in time so a lot of great hikes and sites had to be eliminated. It was hard to choose.

First, I will be heading past the Yellowstone Lake up to the Canyon campground. I will spend two nights there. In the morning
Day 1 I will do the Canyon Rim hike (one or both) which are popular tourist paved hikes with wonderful views of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, it's river, the lower, and upper falls, to Sublime Point and a view of the Silver Cord Cascades plunging down into thecanyon from Ribbon Lake. Then the Brink of the lower falls 1.5 mile round trip to a concrete platform where the ground and platform quiver with river plunging the 308 foot waterfall.
400

If I get my gear check and last-minute packing done early for my longest hike that starts the next day, I hope to drive over and watch animals at dusk from the car in the Lamar Valley.

It will likely be the song through my heart, and then drive along the north rim catching the highlights as I go over to the brink of the falls hike.

Whooo take it easy! GAS CHAMBER AND GERMANY in the same sentence,... that bring up some issues!

In this case, I was the one being gassed. And I'm German - and Irish and English and French.

I've heard stories but thankfully in the 16 years i've been in I havent had to encounter the gas chamber.

This may be because I was in during the Viet Nam war.

Grinding horseradish with a meat grinder requires goggles and a painter's respirator mask

Without them snot and tears will run out you just like the gas chamber in boot camp...

I grind up fresh now, hotter. Just peel back the root and use a cheese grater for how much you want, doesn't bother you either like doing a bunch up at once. Wrap the root up in plastic bag then paper bag and put in fridge till next time.

:thumbsup

The gas chamber was an awful experience. I just couldn't understand why I had to go through it 3 more times at Grafenwoehr in Germany on the Czech border. Did they really think I forgot what it was like?  Insane.

So after confirmation with some co-workers, it seems as though I'm missing out. Apparently they still do the chamber as part of basic but it must have been down when I went through.

Tomorrow is a lot better - can we just plan on that? Sure I do! But don't put yourself out or anything - I know how much you have going on. Yep, doing better, did my weights and photos for the NN broiler chicks, about to head back out for more work. Well, I'm back... briefly... VERY well put!!!!! :clap OMG, so cute!!!!!!!! :love Agree with this. (This is how Julia Child said to boil eggs, actually). I actually steam all my "boiled" eggs - much better results, and I'm able to get consistent yolks just how I like them every time. Did my weights and photos of the S&G broiler naked necks. At 7 weeks, the largest boy is just under 4 pounds. Meanwhile, the largest girl (50oz at 7 weeks!!!!) is my bestest friend and loves to snuggle with me - I have another Puppy in training: - Ant Farm
:D

It never seemed like they missed any opportunity to make life miserable.

That was a different time and different circumstances but hasn't changed much.

Allow me to briefly describe it for you.
You enter the chamber wearing your gas mask. Then you are told to remove it and give your name, rank, service number and date of birth.
If you take a deep breath before you take the mask off, you may be able to get a couple words out while your skin burns where you scraped it with the mask. The first time you need to take a breath, the pain is so severe it is impossible to inhale. Eventually you're completely unable to breathe as though you're under water. Finally they let you leave and everyone goes running out coughing with crap flowing out of their noses and mouth.

Basic training in the movie 'Full Metal Jacket' was close but ours was still much worse. Sleep deprivation and extreme strenuous activity and physical abuse.

I have 4 chicks that I just cleaned up with pasty butt. 3 are a few days old, one is a silkie chick that's about 3 weeks old. Any suggestions for prevention?

Probiotics and steady temps with a hot spot and lots of cool space.
This is what I put in chicks first water. Haven't had pasted vents since I started using it.

Sounds accurate to a T. Maybe I'm not missing out. 4 deployments and a 5th(that would have been worse than the previous 4 combined but got cancelled a week before moevment). I'm surprised it didn't make it into my training.
