EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Lone egg in Bator shows good development. Forget what day it is.

(I decided Jace had too many eggs under her to effectively keep them warm all night, so I stuck it in the bator)

I never got to it, we lost one of our girls last night. The seizure girl, dont know if I have it in me today either, I am miserable as well. Its easier for me to copy from FB than try and explain again... We are devastated at the loss our Beautiful Sophia to a set of seizures of unknown origin. She started with grand mals yesterday and at some point from then until this afternoon her brain was terribly damaged. So horrible to watch all this and unbearably upsetting. Hurts so bad my poor Beautiful girl. This year just sucks so bad I want it over.

So so sorry to hear this. So hard to loose a family member. You were all suffering so maybe this was easier in a way as it took the decision and having to do the deed out of your hands. She is not suffering now. :hugs :hugs :hugs

Here's the dumb newbie question of the day from someone that really should know this already....

This is my first time candling with a candler nice enough to see the yolk. I had a slightly lesser candler through all of last year, so I wasn't able to see anything so as to judge if this is normal or not. Anyway, when I gently turned the egg over to place it on the candler, the embryo floated right up to the top. Turned it over again, floated right up to the other end. Same when turned side to side. I'd think that sounded like the chalazae were broken, yes? I've been turning the egg back and forth like described in H101, and it's worked for the rest of the hatches. Development looks good, I'm just more curious how large the normal range of motion of the yolk is in an egg.

Looked thru notes and H101, couldn't find anything, Google searched it, nothing, but mebbe my search engine and I just need more coffee.

Me thinks you worry too much - or candle too much.
What day is the egg on?
A professional incubation company says not to spin the egg or turn it when candling.

I can't imagine the chalazae breaking because it is so flexible and springlike.

Very sorry to hear that. She was a beautiful dog.

@SallySunshine

A bit behind as usual but sorry for the loss. She was beautiful, My mom was temporarily engaged to a guy that raised Springers. Unfortunately, he tried to live a life he didn't have and couldn't afford. She realised soon enough.

Long neck Charlie showing her super black legs. That's a mystery chick in the back.. My boss brought it home and gave it to the kids. Not sure what it is.

Just wanted to share some pics! Everybody have a great day!

Ain't worrying, I just wanna know why and how much. Don't really care about the egg one way or t'other, just something funny I noted.

Candle too much, quite possibly. It's just fun.

It's day 3-ish? Was under a broody so not sure when she got really serious.

I turned it about 3 cm to the right and then to the left. Didn't spin it, just shifted it enough to see that it had a rather large range of motion. If that hurts it, than normal turning is gonna kill it real quick, you'd think?

Thanks.
