Sally, thank you. I was wondering about membrane. It was a strange color though. He was number 6. These are the friendliest, goofiest chicks. Run at you and jump into your hands. Friday there are 3 Polish eggs due. I started with 6, but 3 we're not fertilized.

I'm so sad to read about your dog. Is it a King Charles Spaniel? We care for one that has a pace maker. From the way my vet talks, the poor breed has lots of issues... Hope you can find a way to cope. I know it takes time, as your whole daily routine is disrupted and constant reminders everywhere you go.. thinking about you..

@NaJoBeLe Nathan, I think you simply had too high humidity at some point, big wet chicks is my guess.

Busy morning had to drop the boys at school today. Then took the flat bed truck to pick up a load of pallets. Dr. Called and just now let the chickens out.

Compass: you are a total idiot if you step in the northern Wisconsin woods and swamps without one. There is some dense forest here that all looks the same so no reference points at all. I learned to use one at about 6 yrs old. Once we killed a large black bear in the middle of a vast trac of land. Not sure exactly where we were in the section we decided to head west because we couldn't miss the river. My uncle took the tracking collar off one dog and put it on the field dressed bear. So with each of us having 2 dogs leased we headed west. Long story short it was one of those nights you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I cuddled 2 stinky hounds took a nap and we found the river just after first light.

Dr. Call: upped rx to 1,200 mg gabapentin, 200mg Celebrex, and tizanidine as needed up to 8mg. Next steroid shot scheduled for 5-5.

@DwayneNLiz . The fan came out of the boys hockey table they had broken. It was made of cheap pressboard (aka beaver puke) .

I am so excited, I found someone to board a cockerel for me this Summer! So I'll be able to hatch my own eggs for the first time in the Fall! Now I have to decide which cockerel to keep....For breeding purposes I probably should keep the chocolate one, since I have 2 black hens and a splash. But I really like the personality of the Jubilee boy. If my other Jubilee chick ends up being a pullet I think I will keep them as a pair.

All of Jace's eggs look good too, even the ones from the fridge. Here's hoping they don't all hatch, cos I really don't need any more chickens....

I just wanted to pop over and say thanks to everyone who helped me with my hatch! I'm so thrilled about it that I'm going to set 12 more eggs tomorrow!! Wouldn't have made it through without @SallySunshine Hatching Eggs 101 and ASSISTED Hatching threads...and cocktails. I definitely was stressed! This time, I'm prepared: incubator sterilized, eggs settling with air cells examined and looking good, and hygrometer calibrating. Hopefully will have a nice batch of Golden Laced and White Crested Blue Polish on May 10th!

We have 10 baby chicks! Our classroom incubating project has been a success. First time using my incuview incubator in my 4th grade classroom. I originally set 20. We have a few left in the incubator that have pipped but they have had no movement for a while. I am not comfortable with assisted hatching so I am letting them be for now. These are eggs from my personal flock of barred rocks. The few light ones I think are eggs mixed with my barred rock rooster and my golden wyndotte hens.
