glad he was smart enough to find a place inside. I have the dang big maran cockerel jumping the fence, typically they are good with staying in the run, he must not be heavy enough yet, or else he just very brave. the little oe hen is always free ranging herself in and out of the run, she is also the only chicken the goose wont stand up to. which I dont understand at all. even the goats listen to goose.
I looked all over for him, up on the roofs and in trees. I didn't think to look in another coop because I thought by the time he knew he couldn't get in his building, it would be too dark for him to find the door of the other building.

Penedesencas are very respectful of fences. I can keep a flock of roosters inside a 2' fence.

I really could use a 1-2 acers of forest! It is a wonderful resource for keeping animals!
and for lumber, firewood and mushroom production

@ChickenCanoe what types of supplements should I look for to give breed stock? I tried to look it up, but couldn't find any solid info. Is there a particular vitamin or combo? I'm currently feeding them feather fixer, but I could switch feed.

Most feed stores don't carry a breeder feed. We used to get a breeder ration in our feed co-op which I hope to start up again in the next couple weeks.
I would try adding Nutri-Drench to the water 2 or 3 times a week. The dosing is on the bottle. For adults, it is 0.25 oz. per gallon.
It has a good blend of vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

I also use Gro2Max probiotic powder in the water occasionally. Good gut health improves nutrient uptake.

I also mix a little green and black seaweed into the fermented feed. Fermenting or even just wetting the feed will boost the nutrition some because it will bind up the vitamins, minerals and amino acids that mills add to the feed as powders. Some of which end up in the fines in the bottom of the feeder when fed dry.
The seaweed is to provide extra vitamins and minerals including several micronutrients that aren't even analyzed in chicken feed.
Different colors of seaweed contain different nutrients in varying amounts.

Various berries also contain lots of micro nutrients that can be of benefit.
I was told by a guy in Spain that he adds Goji berries to his birds diet to enhance the dark egg color.
I sometimes get berries cheap at the farmers market on Saturday afternoons because they won't keep till the following Wednesday when it opens again.
I also feed fish and meat. If I trap a raccoon, I grill it and feed it back to the chickens. I add a little fishmeal to the feed to boost the essential amino acids.
