Quote: How 'bout a 2 yr old rooster or 3?
Got 5 in the coop. I'm so used to them I no longer really register it as noise.
I've got 7 full-throated roosters (@daxigait - cockbirds

) that go off first at 4:45 for about 5 minutes, then for an hour around 5:30-6 (and a few cockerels in training). My bed is against the window close to the chicken yard - Snape on his roost is no more than 30-40 feet from my head, through a window. I still sleep through them unless I've gotten a good 9-10 hours and am ready to get up anyway.

they should scare you, they are very scary

And a very good morning to you, dear lady :hugs I hope you have something you can do inside most of the day, or you're gonna get your tail feathers wet.
:duc ;)
Good Morning Everyone, i hope you are having a better morning than i am my bear is back
:hugs
Glad to hear! They're just practicing being annoying adults. :gig In all seriousness, not sure if it's just my chickens, but it seems that the older a chicken/group of chickens is the earlier they go to roost, and the younger they are, the more they push the limits and are outside late. Little ones like that for me were always really bad at going to bed on time... Thanks, MC!!! Good morning!!!! :frow :hugs Love it - broodies all around, tis the season! (Of course, easy for me to say, I don't have to break them.) I seem not to ever get broodies until later when it is WAY too hot for them to be thinking about it, which is dangerous for them. :/ I keep thinking that I should be in better shape from how much physical stuff I do, but I'm REALLY not (need to work on that). That being said, my back, while still a little tricky (it spasms), is a lot better because of all the water hauling and bending, believe it or not. It does badly with immobility, if I keep moving (including while it's killing me), it does better. Dax, how is the plank challenge going? I was thinking of trying that. @meltel , thanks for posting it... Well, yesterday my 30 minute nap turned into 3-1/2 hours, so that's very familiar to me. My body is very good at INSISTING... :th Me, too - still sore today, but ready to go again. :thumbsup OMG!!!!!! (I can't type the words I said out loud when I saw this.) - Ant Farm
Of course they go broody in the heat! It's too hot to move!
Sandy had at least 11 or 12 :th :th :th
400

Quote: If you expect the bear back tonight, and you have sufficient sight to the coop, you might want to sit up tonight with that 30-06 at the ready. In addition, you might try setting up a "perimeter alarm" in the form of a bunch of cans spaced out along a string tied off on either end. With gravel in the cans, they should rattle if the bear walks through the string, thus alerting you. Do you have a flood light near the coop with a motion detector? If it doesn't scare the bear off, it will at least give you light for a shot.
