EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

So i remember @Akrnaf2 getting a mercury thermo and being wicked excited about it, so i ordered a few off the interweb to put in my incubators

Um, they're accurate but dangerous - mercury exposure if broken, and REALLY important not to get in the water supply. That's why they were confiscated from all of our laboratories in the hospitals - because we have to call environmental safety for hazardous spill if one breaks. Don't you have kids at home? I wouldn't...

(Edit to add: You'll probably get crucified if you take them to the daycare incubator.)

All of us grow up with them all around, there was nothing else!
I don't know of ANYONE that have been hurt and HAVE NEVER heard of a poisoning! Do you know of such a case?
I think that causation is needed but to be panic about it is unnecessary.

My pig killed two of the baby chicks that I let my other broody cochin hatch.... so I had to move the pig away from the chickens to the Goat area. She didn't do it on purpose, but when she randomly charges around, and trips over the babies, it squished them. :(

the other cochin, has managed to keep her 11 chicks alive some how. LOL

All geese/ducks are doing good... and I have 15-20 turkey eggs, and 20ish more chicken eggs i'm waiting on hatch. A few are polish/crosses and then purebred silkies.

Most fish contains mercury, eat too much and your hair falls out

Thought it was kinda dumb when the Govt banned incandescent light bulbs when our only option at the time was compact fluorescent that contain mercury...

I borrow one from work (dairy plant) state certified mercury thermometer, that they use for all calibrations in the plant.

I grew up on mercury thermometers too. My brothers and I loved the taste of the mercury. We would break them just to get at the yummy Mercury.

Look how normal I turned out, I doubt it really has any effect on people..
