BTW, I was rushing around trying to get chicken chores done before dark (and a little tired and frazzled), when I found the baby possum in the CL coop again. This time I managed to catch it (wore big rubber gloves because they were handy and I didn't want to get bit) - not much larger than a big rat, but a lot uglier. I was tired and grumpy, so I just held it by the tail a while (seemed to not do very well with that anyhow), and threw it very very high at great velocity way into the woods in my neighbor's yard - took me two tries, the first time my aim was wrong and it hit a high branch (hard) and fell to the ground in my yard. Got it up and over the second try. I don't know if it would have survived. At the time, I didn't want to mess with actually killing it - not as a soft-hearted thing, more as a I don't want to deal with this right now thing. But just 5 minutes after lobbing it over and getting back to work on my chores I found myself regretting not killing it outright, because if by some miracle it lives, it'll be back to the same coop. I'll just keep checking at dusk, and if he comes back, I'll put him in a bag and bash him.
I picked up hatching eggs from the post office this morning. They were laid Sunday and Monday. Should they be ok to sit in the box today while I am at work, or should I take them out?
Yup - Remember the Alamo, and all that... (Which is celebrated with a giant parade and a lot of partying and drinking. I'LL be staying HOME, thankyouverymuch.)
Bear update?
I woke up with severe, severe wrist and hand pain this morning. Impossible to stay in bed, walked around for about half an hour cursing and shaking my hand arm and trying to will it to resolve (doing that helps when I wake up like this). Scared the cats, I think. Couldn't make tea at first because my hands didn't work (coffee being out of the question), and finally was able to machine the way I imagine someone with frostbite might make tea. Have been drinking tea and reading BYC and watching the clock, willing it to go away so I can go tend the chicks with full use of my hand. Getting better now (though typing is slow). I'm feeling so grateful - I am teaching all day today, which means that like it or not I won't be at home with the power tools and construction (and so will have a forced rest), and I also won't be at my desk typing (also not good).
never seen it, but still sounds interesting
no bear sightings, i have been sleeping with my bedroom window cracked so the dog can alert us to noises out there
today she was barking at the rain falling on the roof below
glad you are teaching and giving your body a break, take it easy tomorrow

Good morning Sally
What kind of help?
physical I am not allowed to lift much weight, that has put me at a dead end without having someone else that can.
Thanks - I blame the neighbor's new rooster. He went off at around 3am at something (probably deer passing close to their coop, or maybe something wanting to get in) and woke my boys up and they all crowed for a minute or two. I had a hard time getting back to sleep, and in my restlessness, I pulled off the wrist brace. BAAAAAD idea. I must have done something funny angle-wise with it this morning. It's getting better now, slowly (I also took lots of pain meds, of course). I may need to wear the brace today at work.

I always have my phone with me, in part so I can be reached by the hospital, and in part because I'm always listening to podcasts while doing chores or yard work.
OK, I'd better take care of the chicks and star the day.
GOOD MORNING, MY LOVING FAMILY! I HOPE EVERYONE HAS AN AMAZING DAY! I BELIEVE YOU CAN GO THE DISTANCE!! AND NOW I HAVE YET ANOTHER SONG STUCK IN MY HEAD!
@Fire Ant Farm we were talking about NNs because I was getting some local. She ended up only having one extra, so I got two more cochins and another RIR to go with it. Now Cinder is a happy mama!
