I think toddlers have such little control over their lives, that asking for a specific color cup is about the extent of them being able to make choices. lol It's all about independence, in my opinion. My kids all had preferences at a young age for different things. As long as it doesn't interfere or take too much time, I allow them the freedom to make reasonable requests. ;)
