EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Long day of work on the tractors today. It's the project that never dies... I really really hope that I can get them all done and the chickens moved tomorrow. I was going to stay up and do some additional hardware cloth cutting ( the last of it, for the aprons) tonight by headlamp. But that was before I discovered that my fridge was up to 72F. Freezer was fine, but didn't trust it, so was moving stuff I thought wouldn't have spoiled in the few hours(e.g., jams, condiments, etc.) to another fridge and was just considering whether to move the freezer stuff when that temp hit 32F, so I had to empty that as well. I am SO grateful that right at the moment I have a spare fridge/freezer running (though in the other house), but this was a huge pain. I think I stuffed the freezer too full and it interfered with circulation (this has happened before) - now the only stuff that's in there is stuff that will need to be tossed (I refuse to deal with that right now). Hoping it will get back in gear soon like last time - a new fridge is not in my budget.

Meanwhile, dinner has been warm cheese and crackers, warm beer, and melting ice cream.

Ummm in lockdown no more turning @Sparkle110
Duck egg or dirty leghorn egg? Not in the nest box, it was buried in the hay where the scovies have been hanging out. :fl

Looks duckish, try candling, they are very opaque and have a waxy residue on the shell
I just got done with a bad hatch. Here is a picture of an eggtopsy. Does anybody know what is going on? It seems fully developed to me. Maybe malpositioned.

Looks malpo from what I can see, were they shipped?
The perfect waterfowl egg:
thats a chicken egg ralphie
Tragic day. The police shot and killed a 15 year old student at my sons high school early this morning. He had called 911 and said a minor (himself) needed help. He had a BB gun, and police shot and killed him because he would not put it down.
So tragic :hugs :hugs

:hugs at least you have a spare
Thanks - but it's not nearly the crisis it would be, since I have the spare. I was just irritated because I was tired - I seriously thought for a second, "Screw it, let it all rot." Then I sighed and started hauling food. The freezer has started holding temp again, so ice cream is not soup - and it goes nicely with the warm beer. Nice to have the excuse to have a dinner like this. :lau
you need an excuse to have beer and ice cream for dinner?
Yeah, but they're really really big, and it's hard to keep their brooders clean. You'd be amazed how much bedding I go through... The S&G that survived look good. The boys are starting to lie around, so I'm hoping that;s just because they are in the brooder (and not because they're acting like broilers). The S&G girls are a dream - super sweet and friendly, big, and very pretty buffs. The Aloha boys are a giant PITA - they have started biting me. :he
Peck them back! Why do we not get new pics?
Yeah, but seriously, 40 chickens in a room of four giant brooders. Ugh. They knock over their waterers nearly daily - wet bedding - another PITA. :barnie In other news, I have only just realized how many big blisters I have on my feet. :th
:hugs :hugs
I have mine on 1/2 inch hardware cloth after the first couple weeks in smaller brooder. Droppings go to cardboard. They'll stay on this for a month then move onto the greenhouse for growing out. I have a broody setting eggs again.
Woohoo!!
Zipping is closing the "fly" Unzipping is opening it So if I understand correctly the term should be "unzipping "
Yep but it is commonly referred to as zip/zipping
I'm still reeling from the fact that Kristin drinks! :th The woman I thought she was a while ago is so not the person she is! :bow
do you not remember the rum and fruit cake? BTW - Kristin, you have my address now ;)
My last hatch was 6 AC eggs that were shipped. All six hatched and I got 1 rooster and five hens out of the deal. That was in October.
and that was pretty awesome!

Whites..... Here's the stuff I was taking about. ... Crappie here prefer it to live bait.
When I was fishing last year all I could catch was bluegills on live bait.
Switched to these.... And all l caught was crappie one after another.

I NEED ADVICE!!!!

it's day 22 and nothing changed since yestrday, me getting worried, what should I do

I can take pics if you want

the only things I've seen that look like possible pips are:

One of my "question marked" eggs has a dark spot there that I did not see in the morning of day 21, but it was there in the afternoon of day 21

one of my 2 brown (cholate) eggs got 1 white mark on it, it looks like sothing was pushing from the inside, and caused somof it of coem off, but it's got another one now, and what's werid is, they are both not in the air cell area!

I am getting worried an dhave no clue what do do, CAN SOMEONE TEEL ME WHAT I NEED TO DO (even if it's to just keep waiting)

Thanks!

~Sparkle
