EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Out of curiosity I'm wondering what everyone does with eggs that never hatch? I had 6 that developed but never pipped. My daughter said we should throw them out, but I was thinking maybe of burying them in the garden for fertilizer. Anyone have any thoughts on this or other suggestions?

We compost them. My compost bins are a pretty good distance from my front porch. There are 3 bins, so as long as you get it in the area, you have a good chance of getting them in. If you overshoot, they end up in my garden. My family throws them, and they try to hit a target they set up. I on the other hand, walk them over and dump them in. Then I use a shovel to bury them.

@MotorcycleChick - OK, I think I may try to do the chicken canning tomorrow. These are young birds (12 weeks), and they have not had exercise/been outside (they didn't make it out there because I had to split them between remaining brooders - it was clear they'd kill each other if I put them together outside - and bite me A LOT in the process - little jerks). So they are likely very tender. My first question is - is that a mistake, to can them, given how young/tender they are? (Will they turn to mush?)

Otherwise, I've done my homework (searching this thread and looking at several Ball/ USDA recipes). Plan would be raw pack, no liquid, and doing bone-in legs and bone-in thighs in quart jars in one batch in the pressure canner, and then maybe the breast/other meat if there's enough in pint jars (there's not much of it). If there's not much, I may just freeze it instead. Will make stock from carcasses (likely will freeze them and do it another day and can the stock).
