EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Guess I have to type something before posting. :lau
What haven't roasted yet????
That's next on the list here or close to it. More chicken stuff first.
How's the S&G NN doing? I've removed all mine as they weren't as good as I'd hoped in size.

S&Gs seem fine. Because I've been so overwhelmed with so many chicks this year, they haven't gotten much exercise, but they do seem a little less jumpy than the others. Good dispositions - the girls are complete sweethearts. And they are BIG. Hard to remember that they are still practically babies... I won't be culling the boys for a while, but have my eye on one who looks good - the most alert and mobile, and also large and with good conformation.

Today I culled the fully feathered females (feather pickers) from the Polly/Snape cross and the male olive eggers I hatched. Tomorrow I am culling all the extra boys form the Tank x GNH cross and the Snape x Puppy cross. Keeping Khan and Kirk (though they are being hormonal pests and I will likely need to remove them to solo quarters). I was giving fresh bedding tonight, and ended up holding Khan in "time out" on my lap to give the girls some freedom to eat, drink and wander around before bed (they were hiding on the roosts, and he was pacing below, waiting for one to come down and then trying to mount). Kirk was doing the same thing. Really glad I built those brooders so large - they are a reasonable size for a single bird that needs to be inside a while (until I build their rooster huts).

(Argh! More building!!!!!!)

Well, you got some ducklings, hopefully you'll have a boy in there. Then you wouldn't have the shipped egg problem. :fl
I got 1 boy WH, the other two of the youngest ones are girls. The older three weren't sexed. So it would be lovely if I could hatch my own. I'm tired of dealing with shipped eggs, but it's the only way to get such great breeds...
