Ducks are alive. Tomatoes are not.

If I tell my ducks it is time for dinner, they come running. If I tell a tomato that, I don't even get the idea that it's depressed about that statement.

As a Biolg I disagree completely with that statement!
Fungi, plants, animals, protista, archeo and eou bacteria are living creatures! The only one that are questionable are viruses that are in between living and inanimate.

A tomato in the grocery store isn't alive, and that's what we were talking about conversing with. However, neither is a duck in the grocery store.

They can see color and hear too.

They can't "see" and "hear" they don't have central nerve system.
The can absorb specific light wave AKA colors by their pigments especially the chlorophyll and some also said that they can react to sounds.

Busy day today, have to head in to give evaluations (hate having to go in on a day int he middle of vacation, but needs must). Afterwards, I'll be able to relax a little bit (though that to do list here at home is still REALLY long...)

Actually, I thought plants grow faster if you play classical music for them. :-D Talking to them does too, but only because you are giving them carbon dioxide
