Aren't those just regular light bulbs? Sorry for all the questions!

Not really.... They're high powered and meant to give off heat more than light. Some of them fancy bulbs don't give off light at all.

I would be afraid and actual heat lamp bulb would be too hot.

No. They're about 250 watts. You want 45 watts or so, or there is excessive temp flux.

Now I've never done this so. . I can't tell you if it works good or not.
But I've been considering making one next spring and trying to hatch some of my call duck eggs and I have looked at a lot of videos and liked this one the best.

Has anyone ever had good experience with homemade incubators? Or am I better off buying one

There are many good homemade incubators in use out there; most of them for far less than their commercially-made counterparts.
In the first few pages of this thread are many links & articles regarding DIY incubators
