EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I got wrecking tools and buckets for nest boxes at the store yesterday. Hopefully I'll have the birds moved over by the end of the week and I can start taking the shingles off. Here's hoping for cool weather.....

I'd love to stay and chat with you non-existent peeps, but bed's siren song is too strong to resist. :frow

I believe you said you're insulating the new coop? Have you ever used an uninsulated up there before? I read something a couple years ago, maybe even on BYC, by a guy in cold country who never uses insulation & has never had problems because of it.
Non insulated here as well. :)

Yours truly has never gotten detention, I suppose that speaks about my natural angelic qualities. View attachment 1098528

I like Menards too, but only been to one a few times.
Menards :love

I was given 4 bronze turkey eggs. All were taken from my daughters hen, layed at unknown dates. This was her hens second batch. Her first batch all died from the Tom pecking them or being smashed,so she decided to let me hatch them.
I candled them and could see that they were all at different stages. about 10 days along or more.Air sacks were very small as we live in central florida and humidity outside is 100% so I let them run dry at about 35% humidity for a week.then back to 45%
Well I was away for 5 days and I got home yesterday. One egg has externally pipped and one has internally, the other two need more time. Both chicks are alive and the one is pecking away at it's shell. My only worry at this point is both eggs were still in bator with 45% Humidity and also in egg turner when they pipped. They are now in my other bator at 72% humidity and on there side.
I have high hopes but Im still a noob. Any tips will be welcome.

Likely story. :plbb

What were you painting, again? Another coop?
I'm fairly sure you've told me before, but I forget everything. Sorry.
ATM, I'm working on the last door of the building I started this month last year. Painted the border; today I hope to get it put together & hung, and at last be able to keep the weather, chickens, & other unsavory critters where they belong, which is anywhere but in my building.

How you plan to get rid of the shingles? It's not like you can burn them. I'm sure you won't get them all off at once, so renting a dumpster probably isn't an option.

Cheer up, both of you. Closest one to me is close to 800 miles. Difficult to make it more than once a day; plane's in the shop.

Wasn't really complaining, but I'm all cheered up. I hope the plane gets fixed quick. :lau

I have to leave soon too, I have another Doctor appointment today....(what else is new)...

I hope the doctor appointment went ok.

My fire pit is a hole in the ground with bricks stacked high enough to keep a grate out of the fire. I mostly use it for trash. The one in the front yard is free of glass and metal due to little fingers and bare feet. I occasionally move the ring. Cleaning glass shards off the ground is not easy.

May I post your picture, and see what others think?

:tongue No more coffee in the threads.

I'll make the coffee. :bun

Y'all being funny this morning!
On our way to Oklahoma to visit friends for a few days. Pray my duck sitters do a good job!
Probably won't be on much till I get back home. . . just in case anyone misses me.

Have a fund trip. I hope your duck sitter isn't named ralphie.

Hi everyone! Hope you guys are all doing well! We made it safely to Oregon and back home. I uploaded some pictures yesterday afternoon on the pennsylvania-unite thread. I'm really missing the ability to copy and paste and post right about now. They took forever to upload so if anyone is interested, check them out!

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip.

Non insulated here as well. :)

Menard's is ok compared to Lowes. I still prefer my local stores, Keim Lumber and Lehman's hardware, along with some more locally owned places.

Sounds like things are going well. One tip would be in the brooder instead of just having a feeder in the brooder, sprinkle food on the floor until they are eating good.
