EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Dax! Beautiful pictures, I'm glad you're back safely and enjoyed your trip!

I've never used it, and only have heard of doing so when the hatch is late, past day 23. I don't think the bloom would be of concern that late in incubation. I'm not certain the point, you would either leave them in the incubator longer or assist, you could do whatever you were going to do without the float test.

At least you got 4, hopefully pullets.

Glad you are high and dry!

I did today.

Watch herding videos, learn about pressure points in herding, no more chasing, much calmer, easier way to move animals,

The only problem is if a predator got a easy meal, it will be sticking around for more easy meals.

Alerts yes, emails no.

Oh my, sorry Dax, hopefully no surgery.

We've had more birds drown themselves, get stomped by horses, or tangled in fences, then to predators, our Greay pyr, her puppy, our horses/goats, do a pretty good job of scaring off intruders.

Our pig sure makes a heck of a racket, too, if anything that doesn't belong comes near any of the pens.

My llama and goats do a good job like yours around the chicken coops. Unfortunately the silly girl roundabout round the barn into my backyard where there is nothing but my feral Barn cat. She won't take on the coons are skunks she goes elsewhere.

I'm a bad bird owner - my ducks and geese, don't even have a protected pen. I just put them in a gated off area to sleep at night, to make sure dogs don't bother them. They are free ranging to mow the lawn during the daytime, and I only pen them mostly to try to get them to lay their eggs in one small area, so I don't have to hunt for eggs.

We have racoons, skunks and other things, outside of our fence lines. If the birds choose to go down into the ditches... they are fair game for predators.

I do not chase them down, and if they leave our property, they are fair game. for the *most* part, our birds don't wander off, but if they were to choose to do that... then they deserve what they get, because they have plenty of protection in the yard to sleep even unpenned, you know?

I guess some of them just don't appreciate the good life they have.

I finally decided that mine would be much happier if I let them out of the run during the day even though they have quite a bit of space. So unless it is storming over there is other bad weather I just let them out and take my chances. I closed the run at night and they have an automatic door on both coops. I did not leave them out though while I was gone I had my caretakers keep them penned up so it might be that she just stayed out too long since it was only the second time they have been out since I got back.

Now that really is a bummer. I will be there soon enough with as hard as I have used my body. No, I got my round bales earlier these are the last of the square bales that I need. I can do 100 or 125 pretty easily but after that it gets to be real work as high as I have to stack. Now with my shoulder hurting it's going to probably take a couple of days and I'll just have to tarp the trailers.
Lol...I thought all that happened later in life...apparently not...lol. Tarping the trailers will be a pain...but probably much better for you. I slammed the door on the house in March when the house had shifted and it felt like someone shot my elbow with a shot gun. I still can't use it properly and I don't have strength in it. Please don't hurt yourself worse. I should have taken it easier...I didn't realize I hurt it so badly. Kinda stupid the way it got hurt.

Survival of the fittest (and smartest). Not a bad thing.
I don't imagine much would mess with geese. They're downright scary...lol.

My 6 year old didn't know you're supposed to be scared of geese. She picks up our biggest goose and runs around the yard with it and the stupid thing lets her. I really don't get how she can do stuff to the animals and they are all just like "meh whatever"

Hi! How are you and the baby?

He's doing great! Doctor and midwife say that he's perfect and healthy, and I've actually had a pretty easy time of it so far. 10 weeks and 6 days until he arrives!

End of Feb.
And our Alien baby is officially........... a boy!

I'm prepared for another out of hospital birth, and I talked to my OB in detail about how to handle stuff, she wants me to labor outside of the hospital as long as possible, while still trying to "make it there" in time to push baby out in a hospital bed. LOL

I'm undecided on how to handle the situation, because I wanted to do that last time, and ended up hitting transition with out realizing I was 100% in labor and by the time we realized it was real labor, she was born and it was too late to go anywhere.

I know that with all my pregnancies in hindsight, I could go "okay, well, yeah, I guess I could see how that was real labor" but in the middle of it, I couldn't tell the difference between real labor and fake labor - and the only difference is one eventually gives me a baby.

Yay! We're both having boys. :D Mine's due this year though.
I think ALL OBs say that, but in your case it sounds like a silly thing to say.
