EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

We have been buying 50# bags of soy beans. Crock pots run 24/7.. A supplement feed for our feeder pigs. They turn into moosh after 12 hours of boil. Anyway, we have gave a taste or 2 to injured and sick birds along with vitamins and electrolytes mixed into the moosh.
The birds recover much much faster with the high protein booster.:)
how much does a 50 cost for soy now? anything else they get? how do you have them penned our pastured?

What I'm doing is entirely ignoring what anything on the internet says and going with what a goat-experienced friend tells me to do. That way it's a plan that both suits my location and cuts out some more 'extra' bits.

It's the exact same thing with any animal, honestly. If one looks up the care of rabbits, for instance, your eyes will shortly glaze over with diseases you need to have meds on hand for or supplements they'll absolutely need or they'll die. Guess what? They don't need that.

Some folks even make chickens out to be hard. That's why the internet is a better thing to do secondary research on.
:pop Yep...it's good to know what not to bring into your herd or flock from the get go...but if one was to dwell on all the diseases out there...you'll go bananas. Banane21.gif

And even if you do a ton of homework on the breed...the animals are only going to be as good as the breeder breeding them. Which in my experience (note: I'm saying MY experience ;)) isn't very good. At all. It's taken 6 years just to find two decent bull breeders with our mind set whose bulls meet our expectations. We've only got commercial cattle for goodness sakes. Don't even get me started on sourcing rams:mad:...I might find one in twenty. Apparently I have high standards.

I didn't think an animal that does well with no issues is high standards. That should be expected of every animal.:barnie

Years ago.. A lot of years... Bob and me, when we met and use to go out and date and whatever.. There was this oyster bar we went to here and there.
Anyway, during happy hour the served baskets of boiled crawfish for FREE.
I can peel and eat crawfish all day. But some of the hardcore people do suck the brains out! They would tell me.. "I'm wasting the best part"! No I wasn't... I don't care how drunk I was, no brains for me. Bob did it a couple times for shock value. They say the head tastes like old bay saltwater. :sick
Um...ewwwww. :sick I'll eat squid but I'm not interested in eating brains.
With you on that one. :highfive:
