I went down and checked the hatcher this morning. I have one new born Toad. There are 4 other eggs in there.

I am thinking I might have misread one when I candled, what appeared to be a dark full egg, might be something else. It is leaking a golden colored Ooze from the top...

I would take it out, but I have a hard fast rule about not opening the hatcher until I am 100% sure the hatch is over. It makes for a better hatch and weeds out the weak.

Does is smell really nice?

I bet Wicked would.....I doubt the smell would bother her with her mask.

I'd be afraid to let it in there, even with the risk of opening. I'm still traumatized from the last blown up egg I dealt with.

Ralph-your first CX x CX pairing, were the babies all white or did they have black spots? I'm still trying to figure out who dad was to my CX babies lol

CX to CX always gave me all white chicks...

I saw yours and would have said something, but there are so many varieties of CX it is hard to say (impossible for me) they would all give you all white chicks..

The other thing I noticed were the legs. they seem spindly for a CX to Cx. The ones I got had OAK tree sized legs.

I would lean towards a cross, BUT still a good start. Bring them back to CX next generation.

Make sure you know who is mating with who, that becomes kind of important in making a meat bird.. BTW I am getting 8 eggs a day from my 10 Toad hens! I am happy,,

That's awesome your getting so many eggs! The only reason I don't know who dad was for these ones is because she started laying while we were away on vacation for a week. She basically speed laying once I paired her specifically with someone. I did see her mated a few times by a cream legbar cockerel while I was collecting the first eggs. If that's who dad is, I'm shocked that they're growing so fast! I need to get a new picture up lol

Hybrid vigour can have quite a very positive effect.
The chicks may also have thrown the way of the mom. I quite like the pics of your chicks with the splashes.
