I have a Cray-Cray question.

I have heard or read somewhere of people incubating eggs for a couple days before shipping them to be finished incubating? Have any of you heard of that or tried that?

Does it work or is a myth? Supposedly it limits moisture loss and you get a higher percentage of hatches out of shipped eggs.....

I have heard of this too. I was going to experiment with it to see if it helped.

The embryo will go back into suspended animation mode after one day of incubation. Two days may be pushing it though

After being away a few days, then coming home and feeding the chickens, I have come to the conclusion that I have too many chickens.

I can't hatch anymore chicks, until half our flock dies of old age now. LOL
However, I totally allowed my silkie to hatch whatever eggs they feel like it *shrugs* it's a total compromise, right?

Average is 4-7 years
I don't see elderly birds doing super well here in the heat. So, I think they may expire of semi-natural causes with in a couple years.

So, a question for all of you hatchers out there. Currently incubating in a Brinsea Octagon eco. It's completely base model, I don't have the cradle or any other bells and whistles. I've had it for several years and while it works, the built-in water reservoirs are much too large for anything other than lockdown and the metal wire racks used to hold the eggs are nearly worthless to me personally.
It has done the job, but I'm still hand turning eggs (since they often don't fit into the racks well.) So I'm looking into a possible upgrade. Prefer something I can "set and forget" for the most part. I've been looking at the Rcom Max 20 with adding the separated egg tray, but it's pricey. Just thought I would reach out and see if any of you fine folks have any opinions on them or Rcom incubators in general. Thanks!
