EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I'll be in & out for a while. Need to refill the chicken feeder, then tackle a few things I haven't felt like fooling with for the last few days, like reaming out the chimney thimble & stove pipes, finishing the tractor so I can get 5 chicks out of the shed that are outgrowing the brooder, mowing the grass before I have to bale it, and on and on as far as I can see. I'm already tired just thinking about it.

Hi Whites, sounds like you have a busy day planned. Feeling better?

I have found this wonderful eggs, imported from Spain, in our supermarket I really love their color. Do any of you know which COMERSIAL breed lay this eggs?

Buy a dozen & incubate them. If you get a couple to hatch, then you'll know.
Most of my eggs look a lot like that; some a little lighter, some a little darker. My rooster is Black Copper Maran & all but one of the hens are his daughters and the result of crossing him onto RSL

You think that there is a chance to find a fertile egg among them??

Possibility! There's a grocery chain here in the U.S. that frequently has fertile eggs mixed in with non-fertile. I'd tell you the name of the chain, but I don't know it; none of them near me. Wouldn't do you any good regardless; surely they wouldn't have any stores in your neighborhood.

I'd open one or two to look for the halo. If it is present, incubate them.
If they hatch, you may then know what breed.
Some stores in the US sell fertile eggs but they aren't necessarily purebred. The hens are a high producing commercial breed and they may have any breed of rooster with them because cockerel chicks rarely make it out of the hatchery alive.
Do they have a package date on them?
Our eggs have a Julian date on the carton which is the date packaged.
They don't make it to St. Louis in a timely enough manner to incubate.
The farm is in Wisconsin, the eggs are shipped to Whole Foods distribution center in Chicago, warehoused and then make their way to here. That is well over a week from production to the store.

The breeds they could possibly be are Empordanesa or Penedesenca. I'm not familiar with any commercial breeds in Spain that lay a dark egg. The two I mentioned lay well enough to be profitable.

I think you're referring to Trader Joe's. Whole Foods carries fertile eggs too. TJ in my area doesn't have fertile eggs.

Shalom my freind, they look like a pendensenca eggs, but I don't belive that it is a commercial breed.
They don't came withe the original packaging, they are packaged here, they just have their shelve life time. In this case 22 of September and if refrigerated 22 of October.
