The breed is very alert. That's why I don't mess with them and they are in the corner of coop. I have two roosters and two other hens in there. So any chick that hatches must be taken out.Whew...she even looks upset that you've taken a picture.![]()
This is a worry of mine as well. Not crushing so much but pecking from others. Right now I have plenty of their chicks otherwise I'd be hatching in incubator.in and out w/flashlight until 3-ish. I am a worry wart w/broody hen hatches. Mine get crushed too often.

I bring them inside to the lamp.. They will survive in the tanning bed, instead of being crushed or pecked by the other adults. Not set up for broody hen hatch. I just do it to give the hens something to do while they are stuck in that cycle.Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I see.
I must be very lucky. I'm not meaning this in a conceited way at all. But the way I deal with my broodies and the chicks would make your eye lashes curl probably. The breed is very alert. Then I added another first time broody to them with two chicks in a couple of days. General population is all the hens, half-growns and all the guinea fowl.
