I once caught a baby coon and someone in the family didn't know I'd seen it and let it go. NOT a very good day. The poop hit the fan. Ended up the little racoon came back and brought it's mom and they both got caught in the trap. (May I say that I greatly dislike having to dispatch predators. In the end it worked out ok...but let's say no one has ever touched my traps again. This happened right after that specific family of coons broke the walk in door to the shop and made a very quick meal of my beautiful SS Hamburg chicks that were in quarantine.:(

Don't much care to dispatch either but the option is losing chickens. Something got one last night. Trap is set near the area it was killed.
Also learned something today. Ground squirrels are omnivorous. :ep they were munching on the leftovers. :sick so much for thinking they were vegetarian.
So I put a piece of the dead bird in trap and promptly caught one. Heck with peanut butter
They also don't care if the meat wasps are completely surrounding it.

That's very true. Honestly I'm still surprised I successfully trap...lol. I was the grim reaper here and at the barn long before I ever started to trap. This just adds to it.

I'm sorry to hear you lost one. That's frustrating. I'm in to have supper....and then I'm heading out to bait my traps again because I'm expecting to have a visitor tonight myself.

I'm not sure I knew ground squirrels are omnivores. That's pretty gruesome! denkend_smilie_0002.gif

Pulled pork with salsa and pumpkin pie here.
Heading back out to check traps as well.

It wasn't spiced at all so everyone made up what they wanted. Some with BBQ one with taco and mine with salsa that I made. Just had to try it. Applesauce is the norm for me as well.
