EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

What Wicked said x100! :goodpost:
I'm considered an extremist because when my kids were little I refused to leave them alone with a babysitter. I took YEARS worth of crap for this, but I didn't care. I had one incident where DH & I HAD to be at the same place at the same time & there was no way to get out of it. My brother actually drove out to san diego from phoenix to watch them for me, because there was not another soul on earth I'd trust them with. I was also demonized for making them sit still in restaurants & teaching them manners. Apparently its cruel to not let your kids run around the restaurant, & by teaching them to say please & thank you, we were trying to prove that we're better than everybody else. :th People are so freaking stupid & I just don't listen to them. I'm proud of you for sticking up for what you believe in & protecting them! YOU GO GIRL!!! :yesss:

I make my kids sit still when we go out and don't usually let them play on electronics, either most of the time at tables. They are messy and I tip well for them to clean the mess up.

my sister in law seemed completely traumatized by how messy two toddlers are, half their food ended up on the table or floor... but my 1 year old is learning how to eat with a spoon, so most of it missed her mouth. I'm used to it - I tip well for the waiters to clean up the mess. I've never had one complain and it really takes the same amount of time to sweep under the table or wipe the floor down for any other customer since they have tools that make it fast. lol

The reason my kids learn how to be in public is because I give them a chance to learn, but do it while managing their behavior. I'd rather they make a mess with their food, then scream and make it miserable for everyone else in the place because I control the spoon when they rather feed themselves, you know what I mean? lol

Exactly! I had to teach mine to behave because sometimes we have to eat out & I will not tolerate a kid running & screaming in a public place like that. I'm not an ogre, they have all day to scream, run, throw mud, whatever at home. Behaving for an hour every now & then is reasonable. I always over tipped too when they were in the 'food all over the floor' phase.
PS. I'd tell MIL that if she ever pulls that crap again, she wont be coming back again either. (ok, so maybe I AM an ogre, but who cares!) ;)

Time for dinner. Charlene out. :frow

I am a Farmer, keen as can be.
Is there any room on your broom,
for a Farmer like me?

Yeah - I get it. lol most people with toddlers get it - and we have good days where they eat super well and don't make much of a mess, and days where they dislike what was offered and most of it ends up finger painted on themselves, or the table. I ask for extra napkins and do my best to wipe things up - but I have to eat, too, and I have to pick my battles. It was definitely easier with just "one" kid to manage. You learn to let a lot of the little stuff go, and what you need to be more strict on - like not allowing kids to run crazy. I *hate* that, I sometimes allow my youngest to be out of the high chair - but she doesn't run away. She either hides under the table, or clings to my leg most of the time. I found that by using booths, they tend to do better, then being strapped into high chairs. They want to be 'big kids' kind of, and high chairs make them feel trapped. I try to listen to their individual needs, and as long as they work with me, I work with them. haha

I hate screaming children in public, it bugs the crap out of me, so i'm really quick to try to shut mine up in places where it's not really acceptable... but in stores, when a kid is excited and let's out a high pitched noise, I just keep going. I have to get my shit done and a store isn't the same as a sit-down place where people would expect peace to eat.
A store is noisy, loud, often crowded, so a kid being a kid shouldn't be an issue, and if it is - go shopping when there's less likely to be families there. LOL

Time and place.

I guess since I have more than 2.5 kids and the white picket fence, my view on families is a little different. I think kids need to be taught respect for others, but there's a time and place for good behavior and wild kid behavior and something somewhat in-between.

My sister in law was completely offended, by me having a chicken on my lap while sitting in my house, too. I showed a picture of it to her, because chickens are REALLY important to my daughter, and she was entirely squicked out by the idea of a pet chicken. haha.
