Hatching question:
I just finished a round of de-worming (Valbazen). I now have a broody hen. It's been 5 days since the last meds, and about 5-6 days since she started going broody. Can I allow her to sit on a couple eggs? Has anyone hatched eggs laid after de-worming? What were the results?

If I make the hen wait another week before giving her fertile eggs, she may decide to give up brooding before the eggs hatch.

Advice?

yes, set the eggs, cant eat them might as well set them

Good question for someone with Valbazine experience. I use something different. I am interested as well. I personally would chuck the eggs and try later.

The broody girl is an awesome mom & the eggs that I'd set are from a beautiful healthy hen. BUT If there's a strong chance for deformities, then I'll just just break the broodines now & save the heartache.

more chance of inferts, thats the only hting i have seen after worming

culling later is harder. Mentally. I just do not like to witness deforms or have nerological probs on a cute and physically looking good chick.
When I prep for a batch. I only use eggs that pass a physical inspection and proper current diet of the breeders that are chosen. I believe a proper withdrawl period is in order.
My opinions are not advise. Just my preference.

Part of my hatching kit is paper towels, scissors and zip lock bags. Like you said, best to get it done sooner than later

Fine with valbazen. There is one wormer that may cause deformities but not valbazen

I agree Dux do not need a pond. A freezer bag works just fine. Or an old Walmart bag inside a trash can so the garbage men are not offended by having to lift a dux into the truck.

So I had some humidity issues early on, but now I'm at day 18 just locked down the incubator but I'm a little nervous I didn't see as much change in the air cell size between day 14-18 as I would have liked on most of the eggs. Here's some pictures.

Are these air cells big enough? Some of them are decent but others I'm worried about. I have the largest part of the air cell upright so in the pictures you're seeing the widest part of the cell.

Right now between the 3 hygrometers my humidity ranges from 50-54%. Should I leave it there? I'm just not experienced enough to know if these air cells are big enough and what humidity range will allow for them to grow a little without shrink-wrapping the chicks! With 18 eggs still looking good, I'm a little nervous to screw this up!

You may notice the egg in the plastic baggie. When I candled the egg the narrow end lit up. The veins looked different, messy. I wasn't sure what to think. Is the chick just not moved into position? Or could something else be wrong? Not knowing what the issue is , I'm just nervous the egg might explode and make a mess and screw up the hatch. Here's some pictures- any thoughts?

That's interesting! We have more corn grown here this year than the last few years. It's used for fall/winter grazing for the neighbours cattle. Our cousins have quite a few fields of it as well. Soybeans are fairly new to this area. Very expensive crop to put in. It's one of my favorite crops to harvest. Most dairy is in the farther eastern and western provinces. A lot of beef cattle where we are...mostly beef.
