EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

You don't like deer meat!
Even city slickers like to eat deer.

First and last time I had venison was the day the Space Shuttle Challenger blew up. Didn't enjoy the venison since I figure there was probably a Bambi out there, and we were eating his dad.....

Would that be the red barn. Morning Mike have a great day painting.

Yep, the added on part, I might have to end up painting the whole thing though.

Back to chicks:
I've been asking around on multiple threads and have heard from people who have had successful hatches after using Valbazen. I decided to give my Sebright 3 LF orp eggs & see what happens. She's been broody for a week, so she may give up on them, but we'll see.

I love watching her try to cover her giant chicks. She's a fierce, persistent little mama too.

Good luck!

So, I might have just brought home 6 Silver Ameraucanas...

How did that happen?

It's been a little while since my post about my missing Jersey Giant hen.
Guess who popped into view at the feed pans this morning. I suspect there is a secret nest she has been attached to. I looked almost everywhere prior with no luck.
Might be some teeny tiny giants appearing soon enough.
She is AWOL again. Back to the salt mines I suppose.

Glad she came around!

Well, it looks like the experiment ended before it really began. I moved my broody into the front nest with 3 real eggs last night. She went out this morning for a bio break & never went back to the nest. She's still screaming at all the other hens like a banshee broody but has not been in any nest all day. Now she's sleeping on the roost. Oh well. It wasn't meant to be. I'm not going to hatch at this time of year if I do not have a hen to care for the chicks. All my incubation/brooder stuff is packed away for the year.

I sorta ran into an ad and the price was good, so... plus I had just sold 4. That makes room for 6, right?

Now I get to deal with introducing a cock after quarantine. Yay me, I'm so smart.
I'm hoping since I have mostly cockerels there'll be a few spats and not deaths.

I have eaten so much venison when we were young and nothing else could be afforded.

Besides the southern venison and our northern swamp cedar bucks taste nothing alike.

If I had a nice corn fed one it would be edible. Personally, I prefer moose.

Deer should be thought of as long legged rats. In reality they should have a bounty on their miserable heads!

Oh yea! Because the rule of thumb is the more cocks in a pen the less fights you will have.... thswad.jpg
