EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I have never been able to get rid of fleas.. on my chihuahuas. They are horrible. Diatamtious earth, and Advantage etc. nothing stops them.
Do they go outside? If so, there are beneficial nematodes you can treat the dirt with.

Killing adults on the dogs is one stage of the life cycle. Killing the larvae in the soil is a second one. The more life cycles that you can kill, the better the control

Since there are SO MANY predators around here - the ones I've seen in my yard - Coyotes, Raccoons, Hawks, and Owls, most cats don't survive. My indoor only cat got out and was dead within 15 minutes. The Animal Shelter's logic is - these cats grew up outside, and are wary of predators. My cat LOVED my dog. If he saw another dog or a coyote, he wouldn't have been afraid. They were probably kittens from feral cats and learned to survive. They should have a higher chance of surviving than a house cat that gets out. I have no idea where these feral cats came from - but they hopefully will survive longer than my baby did.

Thank you! I will definitely give this a try. They don’t go outside much but do love a good romp around the yard.

yes I was just discussing this with the family, last set of cats they kept in the house and they brought fleas and man you cant get rid of them like on dogs!! I really need outside cats, its getting terrible!! I have killed five rats in the past month, I think they are the young of a big mother ratter ughhhh never had I seen any sign of them before.

My kids want a cat. Its one of the few pets I've never had. Question, how do they get fleas if they don't go outside???

Time to search threads on rodants. I think I have five times as many mice as chickens now :(

I love these Tomcat traps! Little white ones for mice. Big black ones for rats. I set them at night when the chickens go to bed & pull them, or put crates over top of them during the day. They're expensive, but effective & I can usually use them over & over. The little beasts cant resist my peanut butter & chicken food bait,

These must have had them when we got them, ALTHOUGH I gave them ivermectin, pyrantol pomoate and Flea baths when we got them!! I could NOT get rid of them, makes me think way back when I was a kid and my grandmother washed her new puppy in kerosene, I will never forget seeing her do this and the fleas popping off, not sure how the dog survived lol, and the smell, yep Ill never forget that smell.
