True, but we are supposed to get to fifteen so the windchill should get above zero. For my goats that will be a blessing.

A lot of our guys ran their dogs in boots to prevent ice from cutting the pads. Super-cold air entering the lungs was also a major concern.

Yes, when they run sled dogs sometimes they use the little dog booties.

I saw a guy here several years ago conditioning his team by having them pull a wheeled sled across dry ground in the summer. I don't suppose that's too unusual, but I'd never given it any thought.

We used to condition dogs with a "roading rack"; a metal framework fitted to a 4WD, riding mower or tractor, with snaps & chains to hook the dogs to.
