Everyone in my contact list seems to have texted me in the last few days. Everyone is sick, and miserable.
My family is at my mother’s for a belated Christmas. I stayed here for several reasons. I don’t like my family, and the used swing set I was supposed to get two weeks ago (but frozen to the ground), was going to be arriving this weekend. I couldn’t really use those excuses, so I said I was needed here to keep water available for the birds. No way did I want to move eleven birds into my basement.
I’m still dying(sick), but don’t feel so awful. But I’m getting nervous about this guy bringing the swing. He has great reviews, but I haven’t heard from him yet. At least I haven’t paid yet.

Still nothing about the swing. I admit I didn’t want to see my family, but really would have gone if I weren’t expecting the swing this weekend.
Someone put a dead deer in front of my mailbox. Too bad I can’t think of anyone to come get it for the meat. It’s so cold, I’m sure it’s fine.
The dog’s arthritis is a problem in the winter. His hind legs aren’t working today, and he slammed into the doorway trying to get up into the house.

Seeing all of the posts with subzero temps and forecasts and I just cannot fathom weather that cold. I went out in long sleeves yesterday morning and had to come in and change. I'm beginning to wonder if we're even going to have winter here. I don't like cold weather at all, but we sure could use some rain here before we end up in the same awful drought situation we were in for several years before last winters' record rainy year. TV forecasts show a high of 70 midweek, looks like the weather channel prediction isn't quite that high. Hopefully that 20% chance of rain increases as the system develops. Anyone ever forget how to spell your dog's name? I usually spell it Luka, but that's not the right spelling. Her name means luck in Icelandic, but I can't find the correct word and spelling. I got the spelling from another BYCer that had just imported some Icelandics and that's what she named one of her roosters. There's no way I could find it again since it's been years since then and I can't remember what thread it was in.

It is fun, and last night the moonlight was very bright.

Thanks for telling us about the Super Moon yesterday! I didn't know about it two nights ago but noticed it yesterday mornibg as it was setting, Beautiful! Now I know what I was looking at and will look forward to the blue moon version in a few weeks.

I saw a guy here several years ago conditioning his team by having them pull a wheeled sled across dry ground in the summer. I don't suppose that's too unusual, but I'd never given it any thought.

We used to condition dogs with a "roading rack"; a metal framework fitted to a 4WD, riding mower or tractor, with snaps & chains to hook the dogs to.

I had one husky mix. I attached a toboggan to his halter for a few days. Then worked up to one hundred pounds. I finally put my nephew on the sled, and handed him the reins. Chopper was in heaven. So was my nephew until he realized he was in control, and suddenly too afraid to use it. I called Chopper back, and removed the child, but Chopper would NOT be detached from the sled. He wouldn’t go for a walk without the sled for a few weeks!
