Kinda hurts your eyes a bit if you try swimming in hard water.

Seems to be universally agreed upon that soft water is better for plants.

Years ago when we first got our water softener system, 80 lb bags of salt costs were $3.99, now 40 pound bags for almost $7 a bag.
Also we have switched to sodium chloride pellets, natural rock salt bags nowadays have way too much dirt and rocks in the bags causing us to have to clean out the salt tub way too often.
It may be better for trees depending on location and ground water source but it is awfully expensive to do so.
