I've been so busy guys!!! We've got a bunch of hatches coming along, and I had to file a police report after "nicely" trying to ask my neighbor to keep their dogs from killing off my chickens. They've gotten at least 6-7 I can prove, and probably between 15-20 total.
Today was the final straw, after killing the first hen my daughter really bonded too, they finally got her favorite chicken, a white cochin who was the mother to the rest of our cochin(s). I had 2 eggs left from her so I put them both in the incubator.... I'm not thrilled by her loss, as white fluff was an all time favorite of all the kids
Our rhode island red Tiny, was funny, but she wasn't as "friendly" to anyone but my daughter. Of course, the blasted dogs also wouldn't pick off our roosters, just our laying hens. So annoying! (Well, not true, they probably rid us of at least half the roosters I was planning on butchering this spring, but they focused mostly on my hens.)
I waited until I had concrete proof (saw the dog EATING my chicken in their front yard as I drove by.) confronted them while her feathers were coating both the front and back yard where he couldn't deny the evidence.
They promised to keep their dogs confined, then a couple days later, they strike again and a rooster and 2 hens are gone and the feathers are all over my horse field and their front yard.
Very unhappy about this. I had to file a police report and was basically told to just shoot the dogs. Unfortunately, by the time we get out there, they've already struck and ran off our property with the bird. (Or, we don't have a loaded gun handy.)
He told me he forgets to feed his dogs sometimes, or runs out of food because when she has puppies, he can't afford to "feed all of the dogs" basically....... which is also why they don't have a fenced yard, or dog kennels, and our laws here for tying dogs is 3 hours or less and then they have to be inside... and they don't allow dogs inside their house.
Animal control offered to take the puppies and any other dogs they didn't want, but they said they wanted to keep them, after telling me the 2 dogs they couldn't even touch who act like a feral pack, they could care less. So we have at least 2 unfixed females, and 2 unfixed males, who keep having puppies. (or, their puppies will start soon) and these dogs are choosing to be anti-people, which makes them very dangerous in a pack mentality.
They've acted aggressively with us before, and Ig ot lucky one of my dogs jumped our fence and stomped the dogs face into the ground to protect our family and it happened in front of our house. Not down the road by their house. It was literally in front of our house. They have no fear that way.
Sorry you are going through this. If they can't afford to feed them, why do they have dogs?
