EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

What happened to @duluthralphie ? I have not seen him since I got back. Did he fall in a bator, finally get clubbed by his tolerant other half, or did he duck out?
I think his worst nightmare came true.

Hi all, hope you are all doing well.

I have been downsizing in preparation for moving this August. So I was down to 3 hens....but then one went broody so I was like....well, I guess I have time for one last hatch. :) So I ordered some eggs & stuck some under the broody last night.

DH had the incubator set up & I was all ready to throw the extra eggs in there until we realized the thermometer was missing! So I was freaking out. The only thermometer we could find around the house was a thermo-hygrometer that we had from when we were watching a friend's lizard last week. Apparently it can be off by about 2 degrees. So I decided to wait and see if I could get a thermometer somewhere today, but now I am concerned about a staggered hatch.

Should I wait and set the eggs after I get a better thermometer, or should I just throw them in now so the hatch won't be so staggered? I'd like to give all the chicks to the hen when they hatch.

I’d wait. It’s only a day. Besides, eggs don’t hatch at the same time. They should all hatch within a day of each other anyway. She probably won’t even be off the nest yet.

Your moving? I hope it goes well, that can be very stressful. I am no help on the hatch without experience, but I would put them in to keep it close enough that she takes them all.

I am not looking forward to tomorrow. It It supposed to start out mild, but then we are supposed to move in to rain sleet ice and snow getting up to 5 inches. It is supposed to be over by Saturday early morning though, and warm up a bit again on Sunday. I really would like a nice dry day so I can move the kids out of the barn.

I hear that, I think we get more snow Tuesday, still recovering from the 6 inches on Monday then rain all day Tuesday.

I'd get the accurate thermometer if you can get it today.

When you hear that someone was hit by a vehicle, you think it’s just some unfortunate person. You say a prayer for friends and family, and forget about it for the most part.
Totally wasn’t expecting to hear the identity this morning!! :th
Don't take this to the bank, but it seems to me that he "fought" under the name of "Valentine" earlier in his career.

I had two deliveries this morning and both of them have taken their time so I've been using the time to nap since I'm so tired. These four and five hours of sleep nights are killing me. Hopefully I can get these babies to adjust to a bucket this weekend so I just have to keep it full of couple of times a day and not have to deal with this 4 times a day feeding stuff.

Thanks, I will look around & hopefully find a thermometer somewhere today. I wanted to try and give the broody a couple more eggs but she is a mean one & I can't get anywhere near her right now! This is her first time going broody. Her mom was a super nice broody and I could touch her with no problem but the daughter is not taking after the mother. As soon as she sees me she immediately starts growling and fluffing up! She bit me when I was giving her the eggs last night, lol, you would think she'd be happy to get them!
