EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I need your job.
Of course you're used to the double conversions that's probably why you get a job like yours. I'm sitting here banging my head trying to figure out how many points my doe is going to get for butterfat if she averaged four percent butterfat, milks a gallon, and gets .05 points per .023 kg. They had to put it into different forms of measurement just to make us crazy.
@daxigait did you ever get a better job? Remember you were looking for something where they respected you better.

Is there anything to worry about if a chick internally pips at the high end of the air cell, and you don't hear chirping (but do see movement and breathing)? Aren't they supposed to internally pip at the bottom of the dip?
No, there’s nothing to worry about.
Mother Nature will take over.

Thanks! I threw these eggs in on a whim/as an experiment, 10 days into my regular incubation once I had a bunch of clears present themselves and create space. They were my worst-condition left-overs from shipping that had to be two weeks old by the time I put them in, and then they somehow survived being in the incubator during the first hatch. I'm surprised 6/6 are still alive on Day 20, so now of course I'm worried they'll all fail at the last moment for any of the thousand reasons they probably ought to. :p

New question - the egg in question did internally pip, and I heard chirping last night. But as of this morning there’s no external pip and no chirping, even with tapping and talking to it. There is still movement. Is that normal? @SallySunshine assisted hatch thread talks about what to do if you’ve got an internal pip AND chirping, or no movement at all, but not what to do if you’ve got movement/internal pip but no chirping.

Day 23 on a setting where the incubator died on the first week and it took 1.5 days to exchange the oven. Gunna candle and maybe chalk it up as 0% h.r..
What a waste of 2/3 of a month of spring..:he
balut egg dinner for the trash can.
So the eggs at the beginning of the week that I didn’t know I had coming arrives today or tomorrow. I only have one incubator and it was only for lockdown. It hasn’t hatched a chick yet. So there will be three ages of eggs in the yet tested incubator. :barnie

The eggs should be in lockdown at this point. Humidity needs to be uninterrupted ie don’t open the lid.
What day are they on? It’s probably just resting but the humidity is very important at this stage. 60 to 65% with the lid closed. I know it’s hard not to look but I’ve found mine hatch a whole lot better without my help.

I really suck at remembering to quote people in my responses haha

We’re on day 21. My humidity regularly gets up to 75 at this stage so even if I pop the lid for a sec it never goes below 60-65. No one has externally pipped yet.
Ok I’m in a very dry area so I battle to keep my humidity up to 60. Since I can’t hear the chicks peeping after internal pip I can’t tell how they are doing till they externally pip. Will not be much help on how long after internal pip to external pip. I would think they are just resting. Day 21 would be too early for me to help especially if temps were on the low side hatching.

It’s probably just too tired to peep.
