Chimney guys are finally capping it off. Its a simple block chimney on the no seeum side of house. Contractor said he wouldn't paint it or anything. Says it's best blocks breathe... Any input anyone?
They are probably too wet to paint or seal now with all the wet weather. Any paint would peel off with alkaline leaching anyway. Not a basement situation I’d probably not paint it.

He may well be right. Our's is also a block chimney, painted yellow, & several blocks have cracks showing. Guess we'll have to replace it before too much longer; only been there 25-30 years.

I can see wisdom in letting it cure (dry out) for a few weeks.
But I would think that if not sealed blocks are porous. If they get wet, then freeze, they might crack and be damaged. Just my 2cents. I left the cold north as soon I got out of school. So my building experience in the north is out dated by 37 yr.
