EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Not much extra, just a bit of hay/leaves/sticks and 2x the shavings I usually put in. Sometimes 3x. I find that that combo works best, it keeps it turning over and the chickens occupied.
I like the idea of the leaves. Dry leaves make good insulation for anyone who gets caught out unexpectedly overnight; could be a lifesaver.

Heh, I installed a permanent pull string on BOTH doors to prevent that, but not before I got caught out there, in shorts, in below zero weather, without anyone with me. It was a long 15 minutes.

Yeah, I bet! This may be a silly question, but why were you in sub-zero weather wearing shorts to begin with?

Because after two weeks of this, you get tired of bundling up three times a day for water runs. At least I was wearing a coat---sometimes I don't.
