EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Do you have the right to protect your property ?(=to kill any dog that enter your land and kill/Threatening to kill your farm animals?)
You do. The laws vary by state. There is a statute in Missouri that dates back to the 1800s but was strengthened about 30 years ago. It allows one to kill any dog that is 'worrying livestock'.
There is also a provision that requires counties to maintain a fund to reimburse for livestock killed if the owner of the offending dogs can't be located.
That money is funded by dog licenses.
To claim reimbursement, one needs to apply within 3 days and the attack must be witnessed by another adult that is not a family member.

By law, I believe leash laws apply to cats as well but for some reason, that's ignored.
I don't get it.
Why do cats get a pass.
There are 4-5 feral cats around here; have been for years, mostly the same ones. I've only had one show any interest whatsoever in my birds, so I pretty much leave them alone. When we had cats of our own, they spent most of their days sunning themselves in the doorway of the big walk-in coop.

I guess if the attack occurs in the middle of the night & no one else sees it, you're S.O.L?

Yes, it is a difficult burden of proof.
In all cases of dog attacks here, I've luckily been able to find the owner/responsible party.
I always require animal control to confine the animal/s so the owner has to bail them out and to have a paper trail for when I have to kill the dog.
