EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I wouldn't worry as much. it is not nearly as contagious as they first thought or feared and if you're not over the age of 70 or in a nursing home or have some massive pre-existing condition odds are you're fine. they're finding with the serology test now that it's much more widespread and lots less lethal outside of nursing homes or long-term care facilities. besides if it was as bad as they feared there should have been an epidemic among truck drivers and there isn't. we are truly all over interacting with all kinds of people and most of us don't wear masks or anything else. we just wash our hands and work. they just freaked people out by listing the deaths. If they listed how many people died of flu or pneumonia in years past like in 2018. the numbers are going to prove out that it is more widespread and less lethal than several other coronaviruses.
Hi Dax. My brother, who you met at his house in Sarcoxie, died about 3 weeks ago at the nursing home. It wasn't Covid19 related. He just gave up living.
I'm sorry but much of what you posted is simply not true.
Yes, nursing homes have been very lethal, but so have veterans' homes, meat processing plants and prisons. Imagine being jailed for a minor infraction that turns into a death sentence.
It is true that those over 70 are hit extremely hard. nearly 45% of people over 50 have comorbidity conditions putting them at greater risk.
It is true that there have been a few centenarians around the world who have recovered.
It is true that some people don't have symptoms. The CDC believes that 35% of infected people are asymptomatic. Given the fact that it may take 2 weeks after infection to exhibit symptoms makes it more worrisome. Many persons are walking around, not sick, but shedding the virus in their respiration.
It is true that we must put all these numbers in perspective. Out of all the people that have died in New York city from Covid19, only 10 have been children. 5 children die per day in the US from domestic abuse. That doesn't mean there isn't a risk.
All that being said, doesn't mean this isn't an extremely contagious or deadly disease.
It is true that children are at less risk. However, they are still at risk. At least 17 states have cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children infected by corona virus. Some come out of it with heart conditions.

As states reopen, it will blow up again. It is projected for 800 new cases a day in Texas alone.
My doctor is infected and won't be returning to work.
It is largely dependent on where one is located. In your region, the infection level has been very low, even though Arkansas is spiking now. Most of us at BYC are rather isolated due to our locations. But for the world at large, the concentration of people has caused devastation. It is much more contagious than the flu and the death rate is much higher. The seasonal flu since 2010 has caused between 12,000 and 61,000 annually.

This virus will have killed 100,000 in the US in a little over 3 months. Statistics show that persons with the annual flu will infect 1.5 other persons. Persons with Corid19 infect 3.5 other persons.

It is already more deadly than SARS, MERS, Ebola, Yellow Fever and Swine Flu. But this one continues to kill.
The US is actually the epicenter of Covid19.
What I can't wrap my head around is that if we are supposed to have the best health care system in the world. So how is it that we have 4.5% of the global population but 30% of infections and 30% of deaths. We ignored the threat for far too long.
In spite of what one may have been told/sold by some news networks, we are not in first place alongside Germany for most testing. According to Johns Hopkins University, we are ranked 131st out of 140 nations in per capita tests which is the most important metric.

Latin America is beginning to be hit very hard. Mexico has over 400 deaths a day. Brazil has over 1,000 deaths per day in spite of their president Bolsonaro's claim that it is just another flu. That death rate puts them at a scale second only to the US>
I believe one of the driving factors is the greater global mobility of the human race compared to the Spanish Flu (misnamed) of 1918. Back then, there was much more social distancing because we were a largely agrarian society even though urban areas were exploding But we now have advantages. Better healthcare, information in the form of news media and the internet. If we didn't have information and healthcare, we would be almost as bad off.
Please, everyone stay socially distanced, wear masks and wash hands.

You can use them as a potatoes replacement!
Soup
Puree
Backed
In a stew
Base for cold salad
You can pickle it
Ect.
but you take in consideration that it is one of the most mmm......mmmmmmm " gas manufacturing " vegetables around :lau (nothing that 2 boils with water change in between will not solve)
And because of the high sugar content, you can make alcohol fuel out of them.

I stopped getting notifications for this thread! Or any at all, actually.

I've got a fox hanging around...It's been around for awhile, but I only just now identified the screams I was hearing. You see, when I was a kid we had this monster that lived in our fields that my Dad called the Scream-a-ma-jig. Many a night's sleep was lost to this monster.

A few weeks ago I started hearing the Scream-a-ma-jig here at our place. Well, I knew now that it couldn't be a monster, so I asked my Dad and he confessed the truth about the Scream-a-ma-jig's identity.

hey guys I hope you're enjoying the weekend I got to go to a goat show yesterday the only one in this whole part of the country that has been canceled.

I do need some help here though what do I do with a rooster who's upper beak has grown too much in his down over the side. it is giving him real issues when he eats or drinks.

I am sorry to hear about your brother. but as to the rest you need to look the big picture. this virus. I won't promote that other stuff fact I went with several hundred people to a goat show yesterday.
no. I'm not going to do that you're simply not right the serology tests are showing at so many people have already had it the death rates are extremely low for those who are young or even middle-aged. shoot worldwide it's like .06 for if you take the John Hopkins study that 5170000 roughly of had it and 336000 have died that's .064 there are very specific areas and populationd that need to be careful, but a lot of people have had it and had very little symptoms and we're finding it's more prevalent than they said. and yeah the meat packing plants have had a lot of cases but they haven't had a lot of deaths often the people that are testing positive for it aren't having serious symptoms. besides ieverybody coming going and all the box stores and all the things around the country without issues. masks arenot healthy for the healthy we have to build up herd immunity you need to look at the what they're saying at some of the major epidemiology places like Stanford. the CDC has been all over the map on this and look at the other countries that did not do some of the things that we have done and are fine. you also have to look at the number of cases that are being counted and a lot of them like in several states have included people that test positive for the antibodies that doesn't mean they're our current cases. how can you use the Spanish flu that is before indoor plumbing before penicillin and it attacked the young strongly.
I would rather see people get outside especially where it's above 70 degrees and sunny and live the virus doesn't like that. sure if you're an actress group be careful but most need to get out and live and work. there are severe social consequences to not doing that too.
