It’s a slightly chilly morning outside. It’s warming back up in a few hours, but I’m sure the chicks are snuggled under the moms. I feel it’s important that they need the moms’ warmth. The stronger the bond, the safer they will be.
And a very good morning to you, as well. Little soggy in my neighborhood.
That’s a risk I wouldn’t take. I have two broodies and neither will get these chicks.Two of my five shipped eggs are out, and two more are working on it. Now for the question: should I stick them under one of my broodies tonight? She is a first-timer and doesn't have fertile eggs under her because she was inconsistent at first, and then when she settled down my husband took her eggs. Do I risk the chicks on an untried mother? Will the other broody stay on her clutch if there are babies running around? They are both in the same coop because I don't really have anywhere to separate them to.
