I have two pullets (EE and RIR) and one cockrell-- they are 22 weeks old. The pullets started laying about three weeks ago. The RIR lays almost daily. The EE started about four days later and has only laid 3, with none this past week. We don't see any evidence of egg eating, the coop is predator proof, and the cockerel is not mating with any that we see yet.

They are all healthy and the EE does not appear in any distress such as blocked bent, etc. They free range for about 90 minutes every night.

Is this normal for a new EE layer? Do they start slow? Her 3 eggs have all had super hard shells and bright yolks.

This isn't breed related so much as an example of the variance in individual birds. Some pullets take right off and others have a more sporadic start. It'll be several more weeks before their true production cycle is clear

I just want to make sure this isn't unusual. We are pretty sure no one is eating them and there are no predators getting them.

EE's are a cross so 'breed' can vary.
They are not always the most consistent of layers.

My EE is inconsistent in her laying. I only get about 3-4 eggs a week from her.

Each chicken of any breed is an individual. I have had EEs 4 times over the last 10 years & they have always been early & consistent layers. I am sure they can vary a lot!
