I was so excited to get those greenish bluish eggs! I've been waiting 23 weeks and my girls just started laying. My BR layed her first egg on Friday, a little buff colored one. She has since laid 2 more. Then Sun. morning, Kari lour EE with great cheek feathering, laid her first, but it was brown with darker brown speckles. Then this afternoon Scramble, our other EE laid her first, another buff brown. (And, for the record, I saw both the EE's on empty nests and get off with an egg under, so I am sure it was them)
I thought EE were supposed to lay blue/green eggs?
How reliable is the breed to egg color?

EEs are not a breed; they are the Heinz 57 of the chicken world. You might get eggs of blue, green, olive, brown, cream, or even peach. Hopefully yours are such pretty birds that you won't mind the brown/speckled eggs. They taste just as good as the blue ones!

I would see one of our girls get off of a nest and be sitting on another girls egg. They may just be sitting and practicing. I got all of my girls at Meyers Hatchery and they all lay colored eggs. I would think your girls would lay colored eggs too...if not buy some more girls. I had 5 EE's and was so excited about getting those colored eggs that i bought 4 more. The 4 girls are only 12 weeks old now. You can get aqua, pink, blue, green, olive, mint green from the EE's. I ordered from Meyers and Mt Healthy and below are their eggs. The center egg is from a RIR and the upper right brown egg is from my slw, the other 5 are from my EE's. I seen my white rock get off of an egg and it was not her egg.
