Hi,
I just bought some baby chicks from co-op a few days ago. I picked out 2 'ameraucanas', and a few other breeds. I am starting to think that the 'ameraucanas' are EE's. One of them resembles an amercauna- beard, muffs, pea comb, etc. But its growing feathers resembles one of my EE hens. The other ameraucana has a single comb, no beard, no muffs. It looks a little like a former speckled sussex chick i had. I am thinking they are both easter eggers mistaken for ameraucanas? I am really disappointed since i have really been wanting ameraucanas.
Thanks in advance.

I'd say they are both more than likely EEs, assuming the co-op gets their chicks from a hatchery. Most commercial hatcheries incorrectly label EEs Ameraucanas when they are, in fact, not true Ameraucanas.

yeah, just what i thought-

They're Easter eggers.

Most folks get upset about being "duped", but honestly they don't even know what an Ameraucana actually is. All they want is a nice backyard bird that lays colored eggs. That's exactly what Easter eggers are.
