Hello, and thanks in advance for your help.
We have 2 EEs in the mixed flock of 10 we bought as chicks in late May this year. All 10 healthy! All SUPPOSED to be girls.
Several have started laying (Orps, Rocks and RIRs) but neither of the 2 EEs (sold as Ameraucana or Americana or some such -- wasn't important to us). Even us rookies can tell the layers are hens!
But we have doubts about the EEs.
No crowing yet. Can't see spurs, but not sure what to look for...we do know they have no different feet/legs than the others. Their combs are small compared to the others...just little rows of flesh. No idea how to check feather patterns, curves, saddles or even tail angles -- I have read about such things online here and tried to do it myself -- but I just don't have the experience to apply the info.
Read about how to post pictures here, and tried to comply, but job wasn't great. If need better shots, or different angles, please just request what you'd like.
The first 3 are of the bigger EE bird. He/she was always the biggest of the chicks, and remains bigger than the other EE. Very pronounced beard and ear tufts.
The second 2 are of the smaller EE. This one, to the rookie eye, just seems more feminine. Smaller beard (almost none) and smaller ear tufts. Just seems more delicate.
Both have tails that seem supiciously upright though.
The last shot is of the two together...small on left, big on right.
Would seem very unlikely that both are roos, especially when all the others from same source were sexed true. But, we are ready for anything.
